Peggy Judkins of FF Western North Carolina attended last year’s December voyage. Here’s what she had to say: "The staff recognized our FF logos – they love to have Friendship Force members on board. We even sat at the captain’s table! It was wonderful to meet other FF members from so many different places. We did activities together and really got to know one another. The ship is very comfortable – it felt like a home away from home. I loved it and I hope to go back!"

  • Discover Zipaquira with a main square surrounded by old buildings in the Spanish Colonial style and it’s Cathedral of Salt, a colossal church built underground in a former salt mine, and the sacred lake of Guatavita, an ancient ceremonial site.
  • Enjoy the enchanting Caribbean city of Cartagena with its intriguing Old Town, gentle ocean breezes, beautiful architecture, and numerous restaurants and small shops.

Description: We will meet in Bogotá to begin our 7-day home stay with the Friendship Force of Bogotá.
Here we will enjoy a tour exploring the most famous sights of Bogotá including the Gold Museum and the Iglesia de Santa Clara, a church that is richly decorated in gold and paintings.  We will take a cable car or funicular to the top of Montserrat, a mountain that dominates the city center of Bogotá.  Located 10,341 ft above sea level, it features a church built in the 17th century, restaurants, cafeteria, souvenir shops and many smaller tourist facilities.

One day of our homestay will include a bus trip to Zipaquira, a colonial city with its main square surrounded by buildings in the Spanish Colonial style.  Also at Zipaquira, we’ll visit the Cathedral of Salt, a colossal church built underground in a former salt mine, with passages lined with exquisite sculptures and see the sacred lake of Guatavita which used to be an ancient ceremonial site.  On another day we’ll take a bus trip to Boyaca State to visit the Villa de Leyva which is a perfectly preserved colonial town.  The cobblestone streets, Spanish-style villas, and small-town pace give the town a charming, lost-in-time feel.

Our home stay in Bogotá will be followed by a three night excursion to beautiful Cartagena on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.  This excursion includes an all day tour of Cartagena including lunch.

Estimated Price: $1,450 including FFI and host fees, airfare between Bogotá and Cartagena, and three nights in a hotel.  International airfare is not included.  See the brochure for more information.
