v      Official Club Name: The Friendship Force of Cape Town

v      Closest MajorAirport: Cape Town International

v      Ambassadors will be met at the airport by their Hosts and taken to their homes by car, at no cost.

v      The maximum number of Ambassadors that can be hosted in any one Exchange is 25. Two Exchanges can be hosted in any one year.

v      About the Club: Our club has been established for 6 years. Our members are mostly drawn from the 60-year old group living on the Atlantic seaboard, northern CapeTown and the Stellenbosch area. The club is multi-racial and welcomes all, regardless of creed or colour, adherence to the principles of Friendship Force International being the prime qualification. Total membership is currently nearing 100.

v      About the Region: Our region has a Mediterranean type climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Being in the southern hemisphere, our winter is June through August with summer from November through February. Our best season is autumn (Fall), March through May. Our climate is mild throughout the year, with the extremes being a low of 6°C and a high of 33°C. The CapePeninsula is very picturesque and we are proud to call this "The Fairest Cape". There are majestic mountains, rugged seashores, endless beaches, extensive winelands and the famous TableMountain. There is much of historical interest, including RobbenIsland (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for many years) and beautiful 17th century "CapeDutch" homesteads.

v      About the Exchanges: We have evolved a most effective program for our Ambassadors and this has been very well received by previous Exchanges. There is a simple Welcome Party where all our members can meet and greet the Ambassadors and a more lavish Farewell Party, which is subsidized by those members who are attending but not hosting.  Our club provides two full-day bus outings for the Ambassadors: one through the CapePeninsula to Cape Point and the other to the winelands, visiting wine farms and the lovely, historic old country towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.  There is so much of interest for Hosts to show their Ambassadors that the problem is to cover as much as possible in the available time. The club and the Hosts carry the cost of the above program. Ambassadors are expected to pay for the cable car ride up TableMountain, the all-inclusive ferry and guided tour of RobbenIsland and the side trip to the penguin colony at Simonstown, should they wish to experience these outings. In the past, we have assisted Exchanges by planning and organising trips along the famous Garden Route, east of Cape Town. These trips take place outside the Exchange, last several days, include visits to game parks and usually have club members participating and assisting the Ambassadors. This service is only provided at the express request of the ED of the visiting club, received well in advance and at the discretion of our ED.
