v      About the club: The Friendship Force of San Antonio was chartered January 1992.  Today we have 56 members, including both families and single people.  We are able to welcome two incoming exchanges, two outgoing exchanges, and one inter-club exchange (either incoming or outgoing) per year.  The San Antonio Club covers BexarCounty with a few members in adjoining counties.  The club is part of the Southwest US Region that includes six clubs in Texas (San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and Rio GrandeValley clubs), Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico.  A regional conference is held once a year.

v      About the region: San Antonio offers many varied activities and places of interest to visitors.  It is considered to be one of the top tourist spots in the US for its warm climate, friendly people and multi-cultural atmosphere.  The Alamo, 4 Spanish Missions, and numerous historic sights give a good picture of the settling of the West and the cowboy era.  There are five major museums, numerous theatrical groups, the Majestic Theater (a fine example of a baroque theater) and the Riverwalk with its shops and restaurants.  Those interested in the cowboy mystique can enjoy country-western entertainment.  The large Hispanic population and the Mexican market offer a visitor a view of Mexico.

v      About the exchange: Hosts, with the help of day hosts and special interest guides, give opportunities for Ambassadors to see San Antonio, the Hill Country, Austin (the capital of Texas) and many interesting ethnic towns that surround San Antonio.  The climate is mild most of the year.  June, July and August are HOT.  There are years when the February temperatures drop to freezing for short periods of time. Our club hosts always write and send pictures to their Ambassadors before the exchange.  There is one small airport in San Antonio so it is easy to pick up groups.  Our members are all within 30-45 minutes of the center of the city.  Hosts greet Ambassadors with a welcome sign and each host holds a sign with the Ambassador's name on it.  We give each Ambassador a club gift (usually a handmade tote bag or Texas bolo tie), an information booklet listing all the hosts and Ambassadors, the program of events for the exchange and brochures about our city. We have some group activities (a barge ride on the river, a visit to a country western place, a trip to the Hill Country and Austin, and a pot luck dinner).  We like to make each exchange special for the group visiting and to go to new places so our members can learn new things about our community as well. If the Ambassadors have to pay for extra activities, this is discussed between the Exchange Directors before the visit so everyone knows ahead of time. Y'all come to San Antonio!
